Caring and understanding support

Counselling & Psychotherapy.

I began counselling in 2005 and obtained a degree in counselling in 2009. I have also been working in psychotherapy since 2014, and received a Masters degree in psychotherapy in 2019. I offer long or short term therapy, dependent on the needs and wishes of the person I am working with. I have trained extensively in many different styles of therapy, and pull on them all so I can tailor my work specifically to each client/couple/group I am working with – putting them in the very centre. This includes working creatively to working with CBT based or solution focussed experiments.

I am flexible in the hours I work as therapy needs to work around your life and not become an extra burden in your life. This includes the sessions being weekly or fortnightly in frequency. I offer appointments from 10am to 8pm on weekdays and my base is in the Eastleigh area.

Sessions can take place face to face, over the telephone or on video call (or a mixture). Each session of individual therapy lasts 50 minutes. I do offer also 30 minute sessions should a person find that more comfortable for example because of having ADHD.

Counselling for individuals.

Individuals

The first session will be an assessment session – a chance to get to know each other, find out what has brought you to counselling and to ensure I am the right service for you. If you chose long term (open ended) therapy, we will have a review every six weeks to check progress. The assessment session lasts up to an hour, and sessions after that are fifty minutes.

Counselling for couples.

Couples

Couples therapy is usually on a fortnightly basis for 60 minutes a session. Prior to the first session, both members of the couple will be required to complete an assessment form, which will then be used as the basis for the assessment session. It is after this session that the couple can decide if they wish to commence into a therapeutic journey with me. I do not share the full details of each form with the other member of the couple – that choice is up to you, but I do ask you fill them in separately. Sessions are fortnightly as there may be some tasks for you to undertake between sessions, and it gives you time to do these and see how change impacts you as individuals and a couple.

Counselling for young people.

Young People

I offer therapy to young people from the age of 10 upwards. As with all the therapy I offer, this can be long or short term dependent on need. I trained as a youth worker and counsellor after leaving university; and worked in the charity and public sectors with young people for 16 years. This has been in schools, colleges, youth groups and young people drop-in advice centres across Hampshire.

Specialist gender and sexuality counselling.

Gender & Sexuality

During my counselling degree, I chose to specialise into therapy around gender and gender difference. I went on to lead a project running groups and one to one support for young people around gender identity and sexuality across Hampshire. I also worked for a charity supporting transitioning transgender adults. For several years I have run training programmes for other professionals on gender and sexuality. This means I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in these areas. I keep up to date with changes and developments in the gender confirmation journey, both for young people first questioning identity to transitioning adults.

Group counselling.

Groups

I am qualified in training and education, and have set up and written programmes of work for successful support groups around anxiety, anger and self harm. These have all been six week programmes at 2 hours a session. They are designed to enable the person to engender their own change according to individual want and need in a highly supportive atmosphere. I also have created a Lego based programme specifically to support young people with SEN (special educational needs) around anxiety and confidence. I am happy to write new programmes should there be an issue or subject area that you are in need of support with in a group setting.
