Introducing me and my story.
About Me.
I knew from a young age I wanted my job to make a difference, and after initially considering teaching, I found counselling and never looked back.
I have been counselling since 2007. I qualified as a counsellor in 2009 and as a psychotherapist in 2018.
In 2007 I also trained as a youth worker, and spent 13 years as a volunteer and in paid employment with a Hampshire based charity called No Limits. Over this time I had a number of roles, including:
- Young people who were at risk of, or experiencing, sex exploitation
- Young runaways
- Substance misuse issues
I also set up and ran a number of therapeutic groups including:
- Coping with anxiety
- Managing self harm
- Anger management
- Loss & bereavement
- Young Women’s support
- Young Parents with children taken into, or at risk of being taken into care
I was the team leader for Breakout Youth, running existing and setting up new youth groups for LGBT+ young people throughout Hampshire. This also included one to one and counselling support. I also wrote and ran bespoke training courses on LGBT+ issues, including Hampshire County Council, 3rd party sector organisations, police & fire brigade, various schools and colleges throughout the county.
I worked as a volunteer with Chrysalis, a south coast charity set up to support transitioning transgender adults. In this role I co-facilitated assessments and inductions, ran fortnightly group sessions and group therapy sessions. My time here, and personal learning and training in gender variance means I have a strong working knowledge in this field.
I ran a counselling service for students at Eastleigh College for almost five years. I developed and streamlined the service extensively, and was overseeing the work of eight therapists whilst also working with my own clients. I also was an active part of the safeguarding board, as well as being part of the suicide prevention and postvention processes.
I have been running Cura Therapies since 2016, and am dedicated to expanding it in terms of what I can offer to my clients. I am committed to continued professional development, and in the future plan to train in reiki, tarot therapy and hypnotherapy.
I also currently work for Vita Health Group where I work short term over the telephone or video call with clients accessing counselling through medical insurance or their place of work.
