Offering Supervision for Individuals and Groups
I offer individual or group supervision for those in the caring professions. This can be in person, online or over the telephone, and is flexible to the needs of the supervisee.
The frequency of supervision I recommend is in line with the BACP recommendations, and based upon the level of experience of the supervisee, the number of supervisees and the number of clients being worked with.
○ Qualified therapists: a minimum of 1.5 hours per calendar month regardless of number of clients. If you have a full case load, you may like to undertake more than 1.5 hours.
○ Trainee therapists: Minimum of 1.5 hours per calendar month. Ratio of 8 hours counselling to 1 hour supervision, with supervision every two weeks.
I chose to train in supervision after 15 years of experience as a therapist. I felt this was the right time as I have a wealth of knowledge – both learned academically and lived in the therapy room – from many years in the field. I chose a course which was both classroom learning based and experiential, and undertook the ACT Diploma in Counselling Supervision (SCQF Level 9). It is a course with a holistic approach, training in a number of models, including: Hawkins & Shohet’s 7 Eyed Model; Inskipp & Proctor’s Normative, Formative, Restorative Model; Page & Wosket’s Cyclical Model.
